5D BIM Workflows session will be chaired by Dr. Pardis Pishdad-Bozorgi

Dr. Pardis Pishdad-Bozorgi is an Associate Professor in the School of Building Construction at the College of Design. Her research and teaching efforts centers on integrating technologies and processes for creating and operating a smart and sustainable built-environment.  Her publications are mainly on emerging fields, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), and flash tracking.

In addition to her undergraduate degree in Architectural Engineering, Dr. Pishdad-Bozorgi holds a PhD degree in Environmental Design and Planning (Virginia Tech), and three Master’s degrees in the fields of Civil Engineering (Virginia Tech), Project Management (Harvard), and Architecture (University of Tehran).

She has been teaching Building Information Modeling since 2011. Dr. Pishdad-Bozorgi has been acknowledged with numerous national awards for her excellence in research and teaching. She is currently serving as the Vice Chair of Cost Modeling Taskforce of BIM Forum.

Dr. Taysheng Jeng will give the talk titled:

BIM Intelligence: Where Did It Come From and Where Is It Going?

Taysheng Jeng received the M.A. degree in Architecture from University of California at Los Angles, in 1993, and the Ph.D. degree in Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia in 1999. Prof. Chuck Eastman is his Ph.D. advisor at UCLA and at Georgia Tech. Under Chuck’s supervision, he transferred school from UCLA to Georgia Tech to continue his Ph.D. study in 1996. He had worked for Prof. Chuck Eastman for seven years. Later, in 2018, he served as a visiting scholar at Georgia Tech to work with Prof. Chuck Eastman.
He is a Professor of the Department of Architecture and the Dean of College of Planning and Design, National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. His research interests include BIM, Smart Buildings, and AI applications in design.

Dr. Shu Tang will give the talk titled:

Instant feedback on structure prefabrication design changes

Dr. Shu Tang earned her Ph.D. in Architecture Design Computation from Georgia Institute of Technology. Shu received her Bachelor's and Master's in Civil Engineering from the University of Nottingham and Carnegie Mellon University. Shu is an Assistant Professor in Department of Civil Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. Before joining XJTLU, She has worked in the industry and conducted research and teaching at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. Shu's general research interests lie in building automation and control systems (BACS), building service systems, building physics modeling, building information modeling (BIM), the Internet of things (IoT), and semantic web technologies for the smart built environment.

Brent Pilgrim will give the talk titled:

Deconstructing 5D for the Advancement of Scalable Practices

Brent Pilgrim works with The Beck Group, a national design build firm focused on integrated project delivery.  Drawn to Beck’s original commitment to integration and innovation, he has been with the organization since 2001.  Brent’s career has included unique work experiences in varying capacities and in many areas of the AEC Industry.  He has worked in the design field, construction project management, estimating/preconstruction, and technology.  For the last 15 years, his passion has had him focused on the visual communication capabilities and intelligibility of project cost data afforded to teams with the use of model-based workflows.  Together with his design and preconstruction industry co-workers, he is actively working to advance model-based, integrated estimating workflows, to define best practices, promote scalability, and encourage innovation in the Preconstruction process.

Dr. Dennis Shelden will git the talk titled:

Open data and cloud interoperability

Dennis Shelden is an associate professor and Director of the Center for Architecture, Science and Ecology (CASE) at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He is an expert in applications of digital technology to building design, construction and operations, with experience spanning across research, technology development and professional practice including multiple architecture, building engineering and computing disciplines.
Prior to joining CASE, he led the development of architect Frank Gehry’s digital practice as Director of R&D and Director of Computing of Gehry Partners, and as Co-founder and CTO of Gehry Technologies. He was a previous director of the Digital Building Lab at Georgia Tech and has taught at MIT, UCLA, and SCIARC.
